What resolutions are you setting for your business in 2018?

It's great to make personal resolutions such as losing weight, quitting smoking, or finally trying sushi but resolutions shouldn't be limited to our personal lives. As a business owner, it is equally important to set resolutions for our business and professional growth. Here are a few possible resolutions to help you decide what changes you want to make in your business this year.

1. Get social in your business!
Have you been putting off social media for your business? And if you do have a platform for your business, when was the last time you updated your information or utilized it for growth? Social media is big for business and isn't going anywhere! This could be the perfect resolution for your business in 2018.

2. Charge what you are worth.
Have you felt lately underpaid and undervalued in your business? If so, then the New Year is the perfect time to revamp your strategy and raise your rates!

3. Be Proactive
It might seem a bit daunting thinking of resolutions for 2018 but start thinking about 2019, 2020, and beyond. Write down where you'd like to see your business become or what goals you want to accomplish then break it all down in smaller steps to make that dream a reality!

4. Give Back
Think back to when you were first starting out your career. You were probably excited and hopeful while simultaneously feeling nervous and unsure. Did you have support, or could you have used more? Reach out to someone in your industry just starting out and who could use mentoring or a sounding board for advice. Your generosity will not go unnoticed, and you will be seen as both an expert in your field and as a person people want to work with.

5. Don't stop learning.
There is always something new to learn in business whether it's something that will build on your talent or help run behind the scenes of your business. Don't be afraid to take classes or attend seminars. They are great for networking as well.

6. Get out and network!
Networking doesn't simply bring in leads and referrals it allows for chances to build professional relationships and connections that can be mutually beneficial to all involved parties. And for those who work solo it gives chances for well needed socialization.

7. Improve your record keeping.
Poor bookkeeping can lead to losses. Be sure you are recording all of the income and expenses your business has generated. Doing so will help you assess your profitability and where you may need to plug up some holes.
